28MW two-building data center campus at Nongsa Digital Park SEZ, Batam, Indonesia, developed by GDS Holdings as part of its "Singapore Plus" strategy for Southeast Asian cloud demand.
GDS Holdings, one of China's largest data center operators, has acquired land at Nongsa Digital Park in Batam, Indonesia, to develop a two-building data center campus offering approximately 28MW of total IT power capacity across a net floor area of approximately 10,000 sqm. The site benefits from Nongsa Digital Park's Special Economic Zone (SEZ) status, which provides substantial tax incentives including exemptions from income tax, value-added tax, import duties, and excise duties.
Located just 25km from Singapore, across the Strait of Malacca, the Batam facility forms part of GDS's "Singapore Plus" strategy — complementing its existing 54MW development in Nusajaya Tech Park, Johor Bahru, Malaysia — to serve hyperscale Chinese cloud and internet customers requiring capacity in proximity to Singapore.
GDS Holdings operates one of the largest networks of carrier-neutral data centers in China and has a growing international footprint in Southeast Asia. The Batam campus is being developed under a strategic cooperation agreement with a major Chinese cloud provider, and represents a significant step in GDS's regional expansion to meet the surging demand for AI and cloud compute infrastructure across the Asia-Pacific.
