Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about using Data Center Planet.
About Data Center Planet
What is Data Center Planet?
Data Center Planet is a global directory and intelligence platform for data centers, colocation facilities, cloud providers, and IT infrastructure service companies. Buyers use it to discover, compare, and connect with providers; operators use it to reach qualified leads and showcase their capabilities. Our database spans thousands of facilities across every continent, enriched with geographic data, peering information, and connectivity metadata.
Is Data Center Planet free to use?
Browsing the directory, searching listings, reading articles, and participating in the Exchange forum is completely free — no account required. Operators can claim and manage a basic listing at no cost. Premium listing tiers with enhanced visibility, lead tools, analytics, and featured placement are available — see our Advertise page for package details.
How many data centers are listed?
Our directory currently contains thousands of data center and colocation facilities worldwide, sourced from PeeringDB, OpenStreetMap, operator submissions, and manual curation. Coverage is strongest in North America, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region, with ongoing expansion into LATAM, MEA, and emerging markets. The total grows daily as new facilities are added and verified.
What types of facilities are listed?
We list data centers (wholesale, retail, and hyperscale), colocation facilities, cloud and edge providers, managed service providers, connectivity and network providers, and specialist IT infrastructure companies worldwide.
Who operates Data Center Planet?
Data Center Planet is operated by PODTECH Trading LLC, based on Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Quoz First, Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Visit our About page to learn more.
Data Sources & Accuracy
Where does your facility data come from?
Our data comes from three primary sources: (1) PeeringDB — the authoritative registry for internet exchange points, colocation facilities, and network operators; (2) OpenStreetMap (OSM) — community-maintained geographic data used to pin facility locations and enrich metadata; and (3) Direct submissions — operators can claim, edit, and enhance their own listings. All three sources are cross-referenced and reviewed to maintain quality.
What is PeeringDB and why does it matter?
PeeringDB is a community-maintained database used by network operators worldwide to register their facilities and connectivity details. Facilities with a PeeringDB presence are generally established carriers or colo providers with real network interconnects. We import and sync PeeringDB records to ensure our directory reflects the real-world peering landscape.
How do you use OpenStreetMap data?
OpenStreetMap provides geographic coordinates, building footprints, and place name data that we use to accurately pin data centers on our interactive maps. OSM's community-maintained dataset allows us to resolve precise locations even for facilities in regions with limited commercial mapping coverage.
Does Data Center Planet include submarine cable data?
Yes. Our platform includes 694 submarine cables and over 3,000 landing points worldwide. Each cable has its own profile page with landing points, route details, owners, and an interactive map. On the globe view, toggle cables on to see the routes and click any landing point to view the cable profile.
How accurate and current is the data?
Accuracy varies by source. PeeringDB-linked records reflect that registry's last update. OSM-derived locations are as accurate as community submissions allow. Operator-managed listings are updated by the operator. We encourage providers to claim their listing and keep details current. If you spot an error, use the 'Report an Issue' link on any listing page.
Finding a Facility
How do I search for a data center?
Use the search bar on the home page or browse the full directory at /listings. You can filter by facility type (data center, colocation, cloud, managed service, network), country, and keyword. The interactive globe on the home page lets you drill down by geography — click a cluster to zoom into a region, then into individual facilities on a street-level map.
What search and filtering options are available?
The listings directory supports filtering by: facility type, geographic region and country, keyword (name, city, provider), and sort order (by relevance, views, or rating). The globe map adds spatial filtering — zoom and pan to any region to see only facilities in that area. Premium listings also surface additional metadata such as certifications, power density, and connectivity options that can be used as soft filters when comparing providers.
Can I search by location or on a map?
Yes. The interactive globe clusters facilities geographically. Click any hotspot to zoom in, drill down to cities, and view individual sites on an interactive street map. You can also type a city, country, or region into the search bar to filter results instantly.
What information is on a listing page?
Each listing includes the provider's name, type, location, overview, areas of expertise, countries of operation, certifications, contact details, and a Request Quote form. Verified providers may also have a gallery, video case study, detailed facility specifications, power and cooling information, and connectivity/peering data.
How do I contact a provider?
Each listing page has direct contact details (website, email, phone where provided) and a Request Quote form. Fill in your requirements — service type, rack count, power needs, timeline — and your enquiry is routed to the relevant provider.
Listing Your Facility
How do I list my facility?
Create a free account, then go to your dashboard and select 'Add Listing'. Fill in your facility details, add your location, services, and certifications, and submit for review. Basic listings are published within one business day.
How do I claim or edit an existing listing?
If your facility is already in our directory (imported from PeeringDB or OSM), you can claim it. Log in, find your listing, and click 'Claim This Listing'. You must use a business email address — free email providers such as Gmail, Hotmail, and Yahoo are not accepted. Claims are reviewed by our admin team, and once approved, ownership transfers to your account. You can then edit all details, add media, and respond to enquiries from your dashboard.
What is a Verified Provider badge?
Verified Provider status is awarded to companies that have completed identity verification and provided documentation of their facility credentials. It signals trustworthiness to buyers and improves listing visibility in search results.
Can I list multiple facilities?
Yes. Each physical site or distinct service offering can have its own listing. Premium accounts support multiple listings managed from a single dashboard with shared branding, centralised analytics, and bulk editing tools.
Quote Requests & Leads
How does the Request Quote form work?
Buyers complete a short form specifying their service type, rack and power requirements, and timeline. The enquiry is delivered to the provider's registered email address, with a copy to the Data Center Planet team to facilitate the introduction.
Where do I receive my quote requests?
Quote requests are delivered to the email address on your listing. Premium providers also receive them in-dashboard with lead tracking, read receipts, and response analytics.
Is there a fee per lead?
No per-lead fee. All enquiries submitted via the directory are passed on at no extra cost. Advertising packages provide priority placement and enhanced lead features for a flat monthly or annual fee.
API Access
Is there an API available?
We offer a JSON REST API for partners, researchers, and enterprise customers who need programmatic access to facility data, listing metadata, and geographic coordinates. The API is currently in a controlled-access beta. Contact us at support@datacenterplanet.com with your use case to request API credentials and documentation.
Can I bulk-export facility data?
Bulk data exports and data licensing are available for enterprise customers, market intelligence firms, and academic research projects. Reach out to discuss your requirements — we can provide structured exports in CSV or JSON format, including location coordinates, facility type, certifications, and connectivity metadata.
Accounts & Privacy
Do I need an account to browse?
No. The directory, globe map, article library, and Exchange forum are fully accessible without an account. An account is required to submit or claim a listing, save favourites, or send enquiries.
How is my data used?
We collect only what is necessary to operate the service. We use Cloudflare Turnstile on certain pages (login, registration, listing creation, and map views) to protect against automated abuse — see the Cloudflare Turnstile Privacy Policy linked in our Privacy Policy. We do not sell personal data to third parties. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Does Data Center Planet use analytics?
Yes. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand aggregate traffic patterns, popular pages, device types, and acquisition channels. This helps us improve the directory, news pages, and provider discovery experience. Analytics data is used in aggregate and does not give us access to your personal account data.
How do I delete my account?
You can request account deletion from your profile settings page. All personal data is removed within 30 days in line with GDPR requirements.
