MERLIN Edged BIL02 is the 48MW second building of the Bilbao-Arasur campus, jointly developed by Merlin Properties and Edged with waterless cooling and PUE 1.15.
MERLIN Edged BIL02 is the second building in the Bilbao-Arasur data centre campus, a joint venture between Merlin Properties and Edged at the Arasur technology park near Vitoria-Gasteiz in the Basque Country, Spain. BIL02 offers 48MW of critical IT power and represents the second phase of the campus that includes BIL01 (60MW), BIL02 (48MW), and BIL03 (22MW), forming a combined total of 130MW in the current three-building configuration. Merlin and Edged are planning further phases that could bring the Arasur campus to 300MW of total capacity in the long term.
Like all buildings in the Bilbao-Arasur campus, BIL02 features Edged's waterless cooling technology, achieving industry-leading energy efficiency with a PUE of 1.15 across all climatic conditions. The facility uses solar glass panels for renewable energy generation and HVO standby generators, reducing its carbon footprint in line with Edged's net-zero digital infrastructure mission. Meta Platforms has been reported as the primary anchor customer across the Merlin portfolio of Spanish data centres.
The Bilbao-Arasur campus benefits from the Basque Country's excellent digital infrastructure, including high-quality power grid connectivity and access to multiple fibre backbone routes connecting to submarine cable landing stations on Spain's northern and southern coasts. Vitoria-Gasteiz's position as a major transport and logistics hub in northern Spain, combined with the Basque region's strong industrial and technological base, makes the Arasur campus a strategic location for pan-European data centre customers seeking colocation and wholesale capacity within the Iberian Peninsula.
