MERLIN Edged BIL01 is the 60MW first building of the Bilbao-Arasur data centre campus, jointly developed by Merlin Properties and Edged with waterless cooling and PUE 1.15.
MERLIN Edged BIL01 is the first building in the Bilbao-Arasur data centre campus, a joint development between Merlin Properties and Edged (formerly Edged Energy) located at the Arasur technology park near Vitoria-Gasteiz in the Basque Country, Spain. BIL01 offers 60MW of critical IT power and forms the first phase of a campus that, at full build-out, will deliver up to 300MW of data centre capacity across multiple buildings. The facility was developed as part of Merlin Properties' entry into the data centre sector, leveraging its substantial Iberian real estate portfolio and partnering with Edged's sustainable, waterless infrastructure expertise.
The BIL01 facility features Edged's signature waterless cooling technology from sister company ThermalWorks, achieving a PUE of 1.15 even in warm climates while eliminating water consumption through its closed-loop cooling circuit. The campus uses standby HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) generators and solar glass across the facility, reflecting both companies' commitment to net-zero digital infrastructure. Meta has been identified as a major customer of the three Merlin data centres in Spain (Bilbao-Arasur, Barcelona, and Madrid).
The Bilbao-Arasur campus is located strategically within the Basque Country's thriving digital economy, benefiting from excellent connectivity to Barcelona, Madrid, and international submarine cable systems on the Iberian coast. Edged and Merlin Properties are planning additional phases of the Arasur campus to expand capacity beyond the initial three buildings (BIL01, BIL02, BIL03), with plans for future phases to bring the site to 300MW of total IT power through continued collaboration between Merlin's real estate capabilities and Edged's sustainable data centre expertise.
