TCS's HyperVault is a sovereign AI data centre venture targeting 1GW of liquid-cooled capacity across India, backed by $2bn from TCS and TPG, with OpenAI as an anchor tenant.
HyperVault AI Data Center Limited is the sovereign AI data centre venture of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), India's largest technology company. Announced during TCS' Q2 FY2026 results and registered as a wholly owned subsidiary of TCS, HyperVault is targeting the development of 1 gigawatt (GW) of liquid-cooled AI data centre capacity across India over five to seven years. The venture has attracted a combined Rs 18,000 crore ($2 billion) in equity commitments from TCS and global private equity investor TPG, which holds up to a 49% stake in the entity.
HyperVault is positioned as a sovereign, enterprise-grade AI infrastructure provider targeting hyperscalers, AI companies, deep-tech firms, the Indian government, and large enterprises. The venture has partnered with AMD to co-develop rack-scale AI infrastructure based on AMD's Helios platform, incorporating Zen 6 Epyc CPUs, MI455X GPUs, and Pensando Vulcano NICs, with a target 200MW buildout in the initial phase. OpenAI has committed to deploying capacity within HyperVault facilities as part of a multi-year strategic partnership for AI infrastructure in India, with an initial 100MW capacity agreement and an option to scale to 1GW.
TCS estimates that every 150MW of HyperVault buildout will require approximately $1 billion in capital expenditure, reflecting the capital-intensive nature of liquid-cooled GPU infrastructure. The venture is structured with a separate management team and is designed to provide full data sovereignty and regulatory compliance for Indian and international organisations deploying AI workloads in India. HyperVault sits at the intersection of India's national AI ambitions, TCS's global technology capabilities, and the surging global demand for deployable GPU compute infrastructure.
