Sarenet's newly inaugurated 3MW data centre at the Derio Communications Hub, Bizkaia, Spain — opened June 2026 with a €20 million investment.
Sarenet Derio Data Center is a newly inaugurated data centre facility operated by Sarenet, a leading Basque internet service provider and technology company headquartered in the Basque Country, Spain. Located at the Derio Communications Hub in the municipality of Derio, Bizkaia — just outside Bilbao — the facility was officially opened in June 2026 following an investment of approximately €20 million (US$22.6 million). Spanning 1,000 square metres of technical space and offering 3MW of installed power capacity, the data centre is capable of hosting up to 340 racks and incorporates an on-site solar photovoltaic deployment to support its sustainability objectives.
The facility is designed to strengthen Sarenet's capabilities in cloud services, cybersecurity, and business continuity, and to reinforce the Basque Country's emerging position as a strategic hub for the digital economy in northern Spain. The Derio Communications Hub provides excellent connectivity infrastructure, making it an ideal location for enterprises seeking colocation and managed services in the region. The new data centre complements Sarenet's existing portfolio, which includes facilities in Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, and two further sites in Bilbao's Derio technology park.
Sarenet was founded in 1995 and has grown to become one of the most established telecommunications and data centre operators in the Basque Country. The company provides a comprehensive suite of digital infrastructure services to businesses across Spain, including internet connectivity, cloud hosting, managed security, and IT outsourcing. The Derio data centre represents a significant expansion of Sarenet's physical infrastructure and underlines the company's commitment to delivering enterprise-grade digital services from regionally resilient facilities.
