OpenAI Stargate Data Centre - South Korea

OpenAI's planned South Korea Stargate data centre is part of the company's international AI infrastructure initiative, bringing dedicated training and inference capacity to one of Asia's most advanced digital economies. South Korea is a globally significant AI market, home to major technology companies including Samsung, SK Hynix, LG, and Kakao, as well as a growing ecosystem of AI startups and enterprise AI adopters. OpenAI is one of South Korea's most widely used AI platforms, with substantial usage across enterprise, government, and consumer applications. South Korea's world-class digital infrastructure – including among the fastest internet connectivity on the planet, advanced semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem, and sophisticated regulatory environment – makes it an ideal location for frontier AI infrastructure. The Korea Stargate facility will provide Korean enterprises, government agencies, and AI developers with access to OpenAI's compute capacity within Korean jurisdiction, enabling compliance with Korea's increasingly stringent data sovereignty and personal data protection regulations under the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA). As part of OpenAI's global Stargate expansion strategy, the South Korea facility reflects the company's commitment to building AI infrastructure that serves major markets with local regulatory compliance and sovereignty. South Korea's government has announced significant investments in national AI infrastructure and capabilities as part of a comprehensive AI strategy, and OpenAI's Stargate facility is expected to align with and support these national objectives. The facility will contribute to making South Korea a more self-sufficient AI economy while maintaining Korea's integration with global AI development through OpenAI's frontier model ecosystem.
