OpenAI Stargate Data Centre - Argentina

OpenAI's planned Argentina Stargate data centre is part of the company's international AI infrastructure initiative, bringing dedicated training and inference capacity to South America. Argentina represents an emerging market for international AI infrastructure investment, with a growing technology sector, competitive energy costs, strong STEM talent pool, and a government that has been receptive to technology investment. OpenAI has identified Argentina, alongside Canada, as key locations for Stargate expansion in the Western Hemisphere outside the United States. Argentina's data centre market has historically been concentrated in Buenos Aires, which hosts the majority of the country's existing colocation and wholesale infrastructure. International operators including Equinix have established presences in Buenos Aires, which benefits from Argentina's role as one of South America's most significant internet connectivity hubs, with multiple submarine cable systems connecting the country to Europe, North America, and other South American nations. OpenAI's Stargate facility is expected to target the Buenos Aires metropolitan area to leverage existing connectivity infrastructure. The Argentina Stargate deployment reflects OpenAI's growing global ambitions and the recognition that AI infrastructure must be geographically distributed to serve international markets effectively, comply with data sovereignty requirements, and support the AI capacity-building ambitions of major economies. Argentina has a long history of technology innovation and AI research, with academic institutions including the Universidad de Buenos Aires producing world-class AI and computer science graduates. OpenAI's Stargate facility would strengthen the country's position as a regional technology leader and support Argentina's ambition to participate more actively in the global AI economy.
