The NCAR-Wyoming Supercomputing Center (NWSC) is a world-class high-performance computing facility in Cheyenne, Wyoming, operated by the NSF National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) Computational and Information Systems Laboratory (CISL). The facility houses supercomputing systems and large-scale data storage resources supporting atmospheric, climate, and geoscientific research sponsored by the U.S. National Science Foundation. The NWSC is the result of a partnership between the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research, the State of Wyoming, the University of Wyoming, Cheyenne LEADS, the Wyoming Business Council, and Black Hills Energy.
The centre features a public Visitor Center open Monday to Friday with docent-led tours of the computing rooms for educational groups. Exhibits inform K-12 students and the general public about weather, climate, supercomputing, and atmospheric research. The NWSC plays a key role in CISL's outreach and education mission, hosting activities such as hands-on Kids Code events and Super Science Saturday programmes.
