First announced in 2022 and targeted for launch in 2026, the Hyderabad region adds to Microsoft's existing Indian cloud presence alongside its established regions in Pune (West India) and Chennai (South India). The India South Central region is part of Microsoft's broader strategy to expand cloud capacity in India in response to the country's rapidly growing AI and cloud adoption rates.
The Hyderabad region was announced alongside Microsoft's commitment to make India a major hub for AI infrastructure and cloud services. As part of its broader Asia expansion, Microsoft has been investing significantly in data centre capacity across the region, with new regions and availability zones being added in Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan, India, and Taiwan in 2025-2026. The India South Central region is designed to address growing demand from Indian enterprises, government agencies, and AI companies for sovereign, low-latency cloud services in the south-central region of India.
