Galaxy Backbone Data Centre in Abuja is operated by Galaxy Backbone Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Nigerian government's Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy. As Nigeria's government ICT shared services provider, Galaxy Backbone operates the primary data centre infrastructure supporting Nigeria's e-government initiatives, serving over 100 federal ministries, departments, and agencies.
The facility hosts the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS), the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS), and numerous other critical government IT platforms. It provides managed services, cloud hosting, network infrastructure, and cybersecurity services to Nigerian government entities under the mandate to consolidate government IT spending and improve efficiency.
Galaxy Backbone's Abuja facility is central to Nigeria's Digital Economy Policy for 2020–2030, which aims to digitalise government services, improve transparency, and create a more efficient public sector. The data centre has been progressively upgraded with international standard infrastructure including redundant power, cooling, and physical security systems befitting its role as the custodian of critical national government data.
