Era4 (formerly Carbon3.ai) has submitted planning proposals to Chesterfield Borough Council for up to five AI data center modules on Erin Road, near the M1 motorway outside Chesterfield, Derbyshire. The site is adjacent to the Erin Powerplant, which recovers energy from a landfill facility. Era4 proposes to power the data center off-grid using this recovered energy. The company, founded in 2025 as Carbon3.ai and rebranded in 2026, claims a pipeline of 4.5GW and aims to build a sovereign AI computing network across the UK.
