Engrida is a planned 707MW hyperscale data center facility being developed by the Wirth Group at the Philippsburg-Huttenheim Industrial Park in the state of Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Announced in June 2026, the project has received preliminary approval from the Philippsburg Municipal Council and has secured a grid connection agreement with German transmission system operator TransnetBW. The project uniquely occupies both the former Goodyear tire factory at the industrial park and the adjacent decommissioned Philippsburg Nuclear Power Plant site, leveraging the existing 380kV high-voltage infrastructure to support one of the most powerful planned data centres in Germany.
The Engrida development is positioned as an integrated platform connecting energy, grid, and data infrastructure. The facility will benefit from access to high-voltage transmission equipment currently being constructed to service a nearby wind power plant, enabling a pathway to renewable energy supply. The project also incorporates a district heating system that will channel waste heat from the server halls into the local community, supporting Philippsburg's broader sustainability and energy transition objectives.
The Wirth Group — a real estate and renewable energy investor founded in 1997 — is seeking a major German or European investor to co-develop the project. Philippsburg Mayor Stefan Martus has expressed a preference for partnering with domestic or European technology companies to ensure digital sovereignty. The Engrida project represents a significant bet on Germany's unused nuclear and industrial legacy infrastructure as a foundation for next-generation AI data center capacity.
