Edged Data Centers has broken ground on a 13.2MW, 105,000-square-foot (9,755 sqm) data centre in Ankeny, located just north of Des Moines, Iowa. The facility at 2701 Southeast 90th Street is designed specifically for high-density artificial intelligence workloads, built on a 17.5-acre parcel in the Des Moines metropolitan area. The project is being delivered by engineering and construction partner Burns & McDonnell.
The facility employs a closed-loop waterless cooling system developed by Edged's sister company ThermalWorks, supporting rack densities of up to 70kW with air cooling and 200kW with liquid cooling. This allows the Ankeny data centre to serve the most demanding AI training and inference workloads without the environmental impact of traditional evaporative cooling systems. The facility is expected to be complete within 24 months of groundbreaking.
Ankeny is part of the Des Moines metropolitan area and has attracted growing interest from data centre operators due to its central US location, competitive land and energy costs, and access to a skilled technical workforce. Edged's facility represents the company's first presence in Iowa, complementing its broader US expansion strategy across the country's key Midwest markets.
