CBE-FI Data Center, Phase 1
Enterprise data centre developed by the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia and the Financial Intelligence Centre, located in Debre Berhan, supporting Ethiopia's digital financial infrastructure.
The CBE-FI Data Center Phase 1 is an enterprise-grade facility developed by the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) and the Financial Intelligence Centre (FI) to underpin Ethiopia's expanding digital financial services infrastructure. Located in Debre Berhan, approximately 130 kilometres northeast of Addis Ababa, the facility operates at altitude within a strategically selected site offering natural cooling advantages and geological stability.
The data centre was developed to support the growing demand for secure, resilient data processing capacity arising from Ethiopia's rapidly expanding banking sector and digital payment ecosystem. As one of Africa's largest banks by asset base, the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia requires robust, sovereign data infrastructure to process millions of daily transactions and support national financial inclusion initiatives.
Phase 1 represents the initial build-out of what is planned as an expanding campus, providing enterprise data centre services including secure storage, disaster recovery, and financial transaction processing. The facility forms part of Ethiopia's broader strategy to develop domestic data infrastructure and reduce reliance on foreign-hosted cloud services for critical financial systems.
