Borealis Blönduós Campus
Renewable-powered HPC and colocation campus in Blönduós, Iceland, offering approximately 49MW of capacity backed by Landsvirkjun hydroelectric power.
Borealis Data Center's Blönduós campus is a purpose-built, renewable-powered data centre located in Blönduós, in northwest Iceland, operating since 2019. Positioned alongside the Blanda river and served by Landsvirkjun's Blanda hydroelectric power station, the facility benefits from baseload 100% renewable energy and a cool subarctic climate ideally suited to low-energy cooling. The original campus offered 37MW of capacity, with a focus on high-performance computing (HPC), cryptocurrency mining, and enterprise colocation.
In 2026, Borealis significantly expanded the Blönduós campus with the inauguration of a new HPC building, adding 12MW of firm capacity backed by a freshly signed Power Purchase Agreement with Landsvirkjun. This brings the campus's total installed capacity to approximately 49MW. The expansion was driven by surging demand for AI training and inference infrastructure and positions Blönduós as a key facility in Iceland's growing role in the global AI compute supply chain.
The campus sits on a strategically significant site with diverse dark fibre connectivity to Reykjavík and international subsea cable landing points. Alongside Borealis' other Icelandic facilities in Reykjavík and Reykjanesbær, Blönduós forms part of a robust Nordic infrastructure network offering competitive total cost of ownership for power-intensive workloads.
