Japanese tech giant Fujitsu has revealed plans to cease its mainframe operations by 2035, aiming to pivot towards advancements in AI and quantum computing. CEO Takahito Tokita announced the strategic shift as part of a broader vision for the company’s centenary in 2035, focusing on developing ‘AI supercomputers’ in collaboration with Broadcom and Scaleway. Tokita emphasized the importance of integrating AI across all operations to enhance decision-making and management efficiency.
In a recent briefing, Tokita detailed Fujitsu’s dedication to becoming a case study for AI-driven enterprises by leveraging a globally standardized data platform. The company intends to move away from traditional system integration roles towards a value-based, outcome-driven business model. Interestingly, Fujitsu is also engaging in strategic discussions with international defense sectors, including Japan, the UK, and Australia, to explore the role of emerging technologies in national security.
Fujitsu’s pivot comes as it reports a small decline in revenue but a notable increase in profits, reinforcing the need for a strategic evolution to maintain market relevance and drive future success.
