ZTE Corporation, a leading provider of information and communication technology solutions, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with U Mobile, Malaysia’s latest 5G provider. This partnership aims to utilize ZTE’s cutting-edge AIR Core solution to pilot AI-driven capabilities within U Mobile’s 5G network.

The collaboration focuses on elevating the network’s efficiency, stability, and overall performance, setting the stage for U Mobile’s transition from a cloud-native to an AI-native 5G core. Together, U Mobile and ZTE will conduct thorough planning and feasibility studies on the AIR Core’s use cases, concentrating on three primary initiatives:

1. **AI with Network Data Analytics Function (NWDAF):** Enhancing the network’s intelligence through advanced data analytics and machine learning for better traffic management and resource optimization.

2. **AI with User Plane Function (UPF):** Utilizing AI for intelligent service identification and integrating large language model capabilities to update Deep Packet Inspection databases dynamically.

3. **AI in Operations:** Automating core network operations via AI, improving maintenance scenarios, and strengthening resilience and security through proactive threat detection.

Woon Ooi Yuen, CTO of U Mobile, mentioned that this development aligns with their vision to offer a more stable and enhanced customer experience. Steven Ge, Managing Director of ZTE Malaysia, added that the collaboration aims to shape the next generation of intelligent networks, supporting both enterprise growth and Malaysia’s digital transformation.
