STT GDC and FTP Builds First Datacenter
ST Telemedia Global Data Centers (STT GDC) have joined forces with real estate firm Frasers Property Thailand to build their first hyperscale data center facility in Bangkok.
The hyperscale data center project is estimated to worth about $219 million (7 billion Baht), having two data center buildings with the first building designed to span about 30,000 square meters of floor area.
This new facility is located in Ramkhamhaeng, center of Bangkok, and will be the largest in Thailand with a gross floor area of 60,000 square meters when completed.
“Combining our world-class data center development capabilities with FPT’s long-standing real estate experience in the Thai market, the joint venture’s first data center in Ramkhamhaeng of Bangkok will be a state-of-the art development, incorporating some of the latest data center technologies and sustainable design features to ensure optimal energy efficiency,” said Bruno Lopez, Group Chief Executive Officer, STT GDC.
According to the partners, locating their first data center in Ramkhamhaeng will help develop seamless connectivity and ease of access to business communities. Hence, they expect a strong demand from banking and financial institutions, e-commerce players, global cloud operators, MNC’s and local corporates.
“In recent years, many large corporates and medium-sized organizations have embraced digital transformation in their business operations, giving rise to demand for colocation data centers that are highly secure, agile and reliable,” said Sopon Racharaksa, President of Frasers Property Thailand (FPT).
“We are confident that the joint venture between FPT and STT GDC will help contribute to Thailand’s digital economy.”
Construction has begun on the new site and phase I of the project is expected to be completed in 2021. The partners added that they are already seeing positive interest from global cloud service providers and enterprises.
