TO COMPLEMENT CYBERJAYA 5 DATA CENTER
IT infrastructure and services company, NTT Ltd., has just announced the commencement of its sixth data center construction in Cyberjaya, Malaysia.
Codenamed CBJ6, the new data center is expected to complement the operations of NTT’s Cyberjaya 5 data center (CBJ5) to collectively offer about 20,000 square meters of space with a total load capacity of 22MW. NTT plans to invest over USD 50 million for the new data center development.
NTT’s Cyberjaya 5 facility was opened last year as a Tier IV data center which was set to deliver up to 6.5MW of critical IT load capacity with a total space of 107,000 square feet (15,000+ square meters).
“Asia Pacific is a key growth region for NTT, and Malaysia has a prime position in its strategic investment plans. With this expansion through a new data center launch, NTT will drive business opportunities domestically and also across APAC. NTT’s investment will support Malaysia’s digitalization, and accelerate the growth of our domestic and APAC digital ecosystem” said Yasuo Suzuki, Executive Vice President, Data Center Service at NTT Ltd.
Expected to serve hyperscalers and high-end enterprises, CBJ5 and CBJ6 will be further interconnected via the optical submarine cable MIST which will mainly run between Malaysia, Singapore, and India when fully developed and launched in 2023.
“The wave of digitalization is unstoppable. Companies today realize how important it is to harness the immense power of digital technology. We are honored that Malaysia is the location of choice for industry leaders like NTT, to site their data centers,” said Datuk Wira Arham Abdul Rahman, Chief Executive Officer of Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA).
“The establishment of CBJ6 as part of NTT’s expansion plan is a strong testament to NTT’s confidence in Malaysia’s capability as a regional data center hub. We are confident that NTT’s efforts will contribute to the country’s goal of becoming a digital nation, helping it achieve a 22.6% GDP boost from the digital economy by 2025.”
In Ashburn, Virginia, NTT recently commenced construction on its VA6 site, the new facility will be NTT’s sixth data center on the 78-acre campus in Ashburn. Designed to span 188,000 square feet, the new two-story data center is expected to deliver 24MW of critical IT load capacity.
