Stack Infrastructure is transitioning to biofuel for backup power at its new facility in Oslo, Norway, marking a significant shift towards sustainability. This change aims to curb greenhouse gas emissions by replacing traditional diesel with hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), a completely plant-based biofuel. HVO100 ensures lower carbon dioxide and particulate emissions, aligning with Stack’s commitment to reducing Scope 1 emissions.

The facility at the OSL04 campus is pioneering this use of biofuel, indicating a broader movement within Stack Infrastructure’s operations across the Americas, Asia-Pacific, and Europe. The datacenter firm underscores that the biofuel switch doesn’t require modifications to existing generator equipment and performs effectively in cold climates, offering operational advantages over other biodiesel options.

Efforts continue globally, with Digital Realty and AWS shifting to HVO in the US and Europe respectively. Such initiatives reflect the growing need for sustainable energy solutions in datacenter operations. By choosing biofuel, Stack Infrastructure strengthens its commitment to an environmentally responsible future while maintaining operational reliability.
