PLANS TO FORM A 90MW CAMPUS
Hyperscale data center service provider EdgeConneX, has announced the expansion of its Asian data center portfolio into Indonesia through the acquisition of GTN Data Center.
Located in Bekasi Cikarang, GTN has been operating a Tier 3 certified data center since 2016, a carrier neutral facility that supports over 50 customers with a power capacity of almost 7MW. GTN was established through a joint venture between Japan’s Mitsui and local IT distributor and integrator, PT Multipolar Technology, which is part of Lippo Group – a conglomerate in Indonesia.
“Our legacy is being able to successfully and quickly deliver data center infrastructure at the Edge. As we continue to expand both our Edge and hyperscale data center platform globally, the planned hyperscale data center campus in Jakarta will give us capabilities to meet our customers’ requirements for capacity in this vital and growing market in the APAC region,” said Kelvin Fong, Managing Director (APAC) at EdgeConneX.
In addition, EdgeConneX has acquired a parcel of land directly adjacent GTN’s facility, which will is planned for the development of a hyperscale data center campus that could support about 90MW of load capacity. The expansion of EdgeConneX data center footprint into Indonesia marks the company’s ninth market in Asia that is either established or under development.
Less than six months ago, EdgeConneX announced a new partnership with Chayora, a data center provider in China, which will enable the delivery of EdgeConneX’s data center solutions to Chinese and APAC customers. Through this partnership, EdgeConneX invested and gained access to Chayora facilities which include an existing carrier-neutral data center campus serving Beijing and a new campus in Shanghai that is under development at the time. The facilities across the two campuses can jointly scale to over 200MW IT load with access to 100% renewable energy.
Also in 2021, EdgeConneX established a 50:50 joint venture with India-based multi-infrastructure organization Adani Enterprises, to develop and operate a total of 1GW (1000MW) data center portfolio throughout India. The venture was named AdaniConneX.
