Their findings highlight the need for additional and redundant infrastructure to accommodate the sensitive nature of quantum machines, which are susceptible to long downtimes requiring meticulous recalibration.
Quantum computing promises a lower power consumption compared to traditional HPC systems, but presents physical challenges, such as supporting the heavy cryostats required for cooling. Additional factors include ensuring adequate cooling, managing humidity levels, and preventing electromagnetic interference from nearby sources such as lighting and communication devices.
The OCP aims to publish a white paper on these best practices, potentially reshaping the way datacenters operate in the era of quantum computing.
