TO BE OPEN BY SECOND HALF OF 2023

Digital infrastructure company, Equinix Inc., has just announced its plans to build a new state-of-the-art International Business Exchange™ (IBX®) data center in Montreal, Canada.

With an investment of about $50 million (USD), the new facility is expected to be opened in the second half of 2023 and is planned to be part of the first cohort of data centers to support Equinix’s efficiency commitment to sustainable air-cooling practices.

“MT2 represents a major milestone in our investment to bring the best of Equinix to Canada and the best of Canada to the world. Montreal is a key economic center in Canada and globally, with a thriving and innovative ecosystem known for its diversity, creativity and collaborative spirit,” said Andrew Eppich, Managing Director at Equinix Canada.

“Expanding our footprint in this metro will offer companies the best-in-class data center design with access to connectivity both globally and within Canada, so they can advance on their digital infrastructure and innovation journey at home and abroad.”

Codenamed MT2, the new site is claimed to boost Equinix’s portfolio with more than 37,000 square feet of colocation space, while expanding its Canadian footprint to 16 IBX data centers.

Equinix also recently announced it plans to build a new data center facility in Barcelona, to further bolster its global footprint. Codenamed BA2 International Business Exchange™ (IBX®) data center, the new site is located adjacent to the Equinix’s existing BA1 site – forming a campus, and is planned to serve as a strategic connection point for data communications between Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

Recently, Lunar Digital also announced that it acquired one of Equinix data center facility in Manchester. As announced, the acquired facility, which Equinix previously announced the closure in December 2021, is a 22,500 square feet 3MVA (expansion to 4MVA) data center.
