A NEUTRAL COLOCATION FACILITY IN SENEGAL

The carrier neutral colocation provider Onix Data Centers Ltd., has just announced the launch of its second West African neutral colocation data center facility.

Located in Dakar, Senegal, at the 2Africa Cable Landing Station (“CLS”), the new data center is designed to be a fully integrated neutral colocation facility with expectation of giving customers the ability to connect to all submarine cables in Senegal.

“The launch on 16 February 2023 of the data center in Senegal is an exciting step forward in our mission to provide superior neutral colocation services and connectivity to our customers in West Africa,” said Michael Nahon, Chief Executive Officer at Onix.

Headquartered in London, Onix stated that the new data center is an expansion of its existing Tier IV data center in Ghana, aiming to further establish a Pan African digital platform that will deliver high speed and secure data services to the enterprise, consumer and public sector markets.

“The launch of the first neutral Data Centre at the CLS in Senegal, and on the African continent, will bring significant benefits not only to local businesses, but also to governments and public institutions in the region,” said Pape Gueye, La Colombe Group joint CEO, Onix’s partner in Senegal.

“By providing secure and reliable access to data services, the data center can support the digitization efforts of these organizations, helping them to improve their services and better serve their communities. Additionally, the data sovereignty aspect of the center ensures that sensitive information is protected and remains within the jurisdiction of the country and the West African Zone, which is of utmost importance in today’s data-driven world.”

Recently, Pan-African data center developer and operator, Raxio Group (“Raxio”), also announced its plans to build a new data center facility in Angola, to further expand its Africa footprint. As announced, the new facility is set to be a carrier neutral, Tier III data center, located in the Cacuaco district, on the outskirts of Luanda, and it is expected to deliver more than 6MW of IT capacity.
