A 22,500 SQUARE FEET FACILITY

UK based data center and managed services provider, Lunar Digital has just announced its acquisition of Equinix data center facility in Manchester.

The acquired facility, which Equinix previously announced the closure in December 2021, is a 22,500 square feet 3MVA (expansion to 4MVA) data center. Lunar Digital claims that the acquisition is a highly strategic step that will bolster their data center footprint in the UK.

“We’re very excited to announce that we’ve completed the acquisition of the Equinix data center in Reynolds House. The acquisition will ensure client colocation capacity in the most highly demanded markets within the UK. The demand for premium data center capacity in Manchester continues to be highlighted and we are proud to be playing our part in supporting its continued growth,” said Robin Garbutt, Group Chief Executive Officer of Lunar Digital.

Formerly known as MA2, the facility is to be rebranded as Lunar1 & Lunar2 due to the fact there are two self-contained facilities within the site, while expecting to offer carrier neutral data center services immediately within the facility.

With an existing Tier3 European facility in Norway, Lunar Digital stated that the acquisition also adds notable additional capacity to its current data center network to further strengthen their private and virtual cloud solutions.

Recently, Vantage Data Centers, also announced its entrance into London Market with the development of a 48MW data center campus. Sited on five acres (two hectares) of land in the PowerGate neighborhood of North Acton, the proposed data center campus is to deliver a total of 430,000 square feet (40,000 square meters) space across two 24MW multi-story data centers once fully developed.

Equinix, the owner of the acquire facility also recently announced that it plans to build a new data center facility in Barcelona, to further bolster its global footprint. As announced, the new site will be located adjacent to the Equinix’s existing BA1 site, to form a campus, and is planned to serve as a strategic connection point for data communications between Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
