STARTING WITH A 20MW FACILITY

Hyperscale campus provider Vantage Data Centers, has just announced the construction of a second data center campus codenamed JNB2, in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The first building of the new data center campus is planned to be a two-story building that will offer 355,000 square feet (33,000 square meters) of IT space and 20MW of IT load capacity which is expected to be operational in mid-2024.

“South Africa continues to be a cornerstone for Vantage’s EMEA growth outside of continental Europe. Investing in a second campus is a testament to our commitment to the region and our customers who have business requirements to be in this high-demand market,” said Antoine Boniface, president, Vantage Data Centers, EMEA.

As announced, JNB2 is to feature Vantage’s standardized campus blueprint and practices including renewable energy through a recent Power Purchase Agreement with SolarAfrica, limited carbon footprints, maintenance of energy efficient operations with a leading power usage effectiveness (PUE) and minimized use of water.

Furthermore, this new data center is planned to also provide dedicated offices and workspaces, break areas, conference rooms, meeting spaces and secure storage areas.

The company also announced the expansion of its JNB1, its first facility in Johannesburg, South Africa, which is also its first African data center campus, stating that the next phase is under construction and is slated to be operational in early 2024.

Vantage announced the commencement of the construction of JNB1 in July 2022.  As announced, Vantage expects this campus to deliver 80MW of IT power capacity upon full build, which is to be achieved through a planned US$1 billion investment from its existing financial partners.

Recently, Vantage Data Centers, also announced its delivery of three new data center facilities, two in Berlin and one in Frankfurt. As announced, the two Berlin campuses will offer 32MW of capacity while the Frankfurt campus will offer 40MW IT capacity, totaling 72MW.
