EXPANDING ITS HYPERSCALE FOOTPRINT

Scala Data Centers has today launched its new hyperscale data center located in the Tambore campus, the company’s complex in Greater Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Codenamed SGRUTB04, the new data center offers a total capacity of 18MW with about 140,000 square feet of total built area across seven floors and four data halls, adding up to over 1,500 racks.

“Latin America’s largest vertical data center, SGRUTB04, is an excellent example of Scala’s multi-build approach. With this, we introduce the concept of built-in reserved capacity, bringing unprecedented scalability to the Latin American sector. This approach allows our clients to grow their business in a sustainable way and in record time for decades,” said Marcos Peigo, CEO of Scala.

Dedicated to a single hyperscale client, the latest data center brings Scala’s Tambore Campus to have a total of 90MW leased capacity and 170MW of capacity contractually reserved for hyperscale clients. The campus is further expected to become the largest data center complex in Latin America.

On further expansions, the company announced the continuation of its new projects underway, such as the SGRUTB05, which will have a capacity of 10MW and is scheduled to start operations in early 2023, and the SGRUTB06 which is designed to deliver 28MW capacity and scheduled to open in the beginning of 2024.

Also in Brazil, Scala is developing data centers in Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre, Jundiaí, Campinas, and Fortaleza which are all anchored by hyperscale clients. Across Latin America, that company plans to develop data centers in Chile, Mexico, Colombia, and Peru.

Headquartered in Brazil, Scala Data Centers is a portfolio company of DigitalBridge (formerly Digital Colony), formed in 2020 through the acquisition of data center facilities from UOL Diveo in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

With the opening of SGRUTB04, Scala now has five data centers in operation, three of which are in the Tambore Campus, one in Sao Paulo downtown and another in Campinas, Greater Sao Paulo.
