REACHING 85% GREEN POWER IN THE REGION

Data center developer and operator, CyrusOne, has announced that it plans to purchase solar and wind energy from Gexa Energy, LP, to power its northern Texas data center facilities which include Carrolton, Allen and Lewisville.

This purchase represent a significant step in CyrusOne’s transition to 100% sustainable power, and forms part of an expansion of the company’s ongoing business relationship with Gexa Energy, LP, a subsidiary of NextEra Energy

“CyrusOne’s collaboration with Gexa Energy helps solidify our presence in Texas as a leader in renewable energy solutions. This purchase is another important step in our transition to 100% sustainable power through deregulated markets,” said Todd Masters, Director of Power and Energy at CyrusOne.

With the inclusion of this energy purchase, approximately 85% of CyrusOne’s ERCOT deregulated data center load in North Texas will be powered by renewable energy by the end of 2023. As announced, the purchase includes a solar offtake of 30 MW (approx. 75,000 MWh) and wind offtake comprising 10 MW (approx. 33,000 MWh).

In January 2021, CyrusOne announced that it plans to purchase 67MW of renewable energy from Enel Green Power’s 284MW Azure Sky solar + storage project located in Haskell County, Texas, to power its data center facility in Allen, Texas, and Carrollton, Texas.
