PLANS TO INVEST $100 MILLION

Australia-based data center provider NEXTDC, has just announced it plans to develop a new data center in Adelaide, South Australia with a planned investment of $100 million.

Codenamed A1, the new data center will be located at 211 Pirie Street Adelaide, following a signed agreement to purchase the land for the construction of this facility.

“We are honored to have been selected by the City of Adelaide to develop this strategic site into a new world class technology Centre of excellence. We are excited to be a part of the growing ecosystem of leading technology companies that are investing in the South Australian economy,” said Craig Scroggie, CEO of NEXTDC.

“Our partnership with the South Australian Government was instrumental in developing our long-term strategy to support the growth of the state. This digital infrastructure development represents an important investment in South Australia that will further support and accelerate the growth of the SA Government’s Digital transformation strategy.”

As designed, A1 is expected to be a 10MW Tier IV data center facility which will feature direct cloud interconnection capability, and an Innovation Centre to serve as an entrepreneurial incubation hub for South Australia.

“As a city that is focused on building greater digital capabilities and attracting a broad range of businesses and investment, NEXTDC is precisely the type of business we want to see based here,” said Sandy Verschoor, Lord Mayor of Adelaide.

“Not only will the sale of 211 Pirie Street see a company with a strong global reputation further cement Adelaide’s reputation as an affordable and innovative place to do business, but the investment will also be responsibly used for the growth of the city.”

NEXTDC is also constructing its 150MW hyperscale data center campus in Melbourne (M3) which is expected to span 100,000 square meters when fully built. This facility is also designed to interconnect with the company’s existing Melbourne campuses, M1 and M2.
