PARTNERS WITH NEXTERA ENERGY RESOURCES

Data center and colocation service provider Element Critical, has just announced the provision of 100% renewable energy at its Houston and Austin colocation data centers.

This green footprint was achieved through the establishment of a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) between Element Critical and NextEra Energy Resources, LLC., a wind and solar energy supplier. Based on this agreement, a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources will deliver green power from an ERCOT-connected, Texas-based wind energy center to Element Critical’s Houston and Austin facilities.

“NextEra Energy Resources has been pivotal in advising our teams and accelerating our renewable energy initiatives. We are excited to announce this first initiative as part of our goal to have 100% carbon offsets in place across our entire data center portfolio by 2025.  Yet, our corporate commitment extends beyond PPAs, as our ultimate goal is to directly procure and generate 100% zero-carbon energy through a combination of on-site generation projects and direct utility provisioned 100% green energy by 2030,” said Ken Parent, CEO of Element Critical.

Through this agreement, Element Critical can now offer green power service options to its Texas data center customers, further driving its efforts toward operating a 100% carbon neutral footprint.

Element Critical’s Houston data center is a 26MW facility that the company acquired from Skybox in March 2021. Currently, this data center is undergoing an expansion phase which will enable the total delivery of 32MW by Q2 2022.

The company’s Austin data center is a 62,000 square foot facility which was also acquired in September last year. ‘Austin One’ is designed to support 7MW of critical IT load and sited on a 7-acre campus which is located in the northern part of Austin.
