PLANS 14.2MW EXPANSION ACROSS BOTH SITES

North American interconnection and hyperscale edge data center company Cologix, has just announced the signing of a definitive agreement to purchase an interconnection facility from Zayo Group Holdings in downtown Vancouver, bolstering its investment in Canada.

Upon completion of the acquisition deal, Cologix plans to immediately invest in the 65,000+ square foot downtown Vancouver data centers to create 4.2MW of additional capacity. Based on the agreement, Zayo will remain a key customer at the site, providing network connectivity solutions for its, and Cologix’s customers in the Vancouver market.

Simultaneously, Cologix announced that it plans to expand its Toronto facility, TOR4, by an additional 50,000 square feet of space and 10MW of power. This will further compliment the operations of the Toronto campus as the company offers diverse dark fiber connectivity between TOR4 and TOR1.

“Today, Cologix hosts 75% of Canada’s direct cloud onramps at our data centers, including three in Vancouver with Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft® Azure ExpressRoute and Amazon Web Services®, and access to thousands of miles of dark fiber routes in the provinces of British Columbia, Quebec and Ontario. This site acquisition in the heart of downtown Vancouver, where data center space is in short supply, fits into Cologix’s interconnection growth strategy by continuing to expand our Canadian footprint to support edge cloud traffic growth.”

This is not the first facility acquisition deal established by Cologix in Canada, as the company had acquired Montreal-based hyperscale specialist COLO-D in 2018, gaining two hyperscale facilities. The first facility is sited in Drummondville, now Cologix’s MTL9 facility which offers 120,000 square feet of space and 25MW of power, and the second is sited in Longueuil, now Cologix’s MTL10 facility which offers 180,000 square feet of data center space and 35MW of power.
