HYPERSCALE DATA CENTER CONNECTIVITY

Network infrastructure and service provider HGC Global Communications Limited (HGC), has established a Point-of-Presence (PoP) at AirTrunk’s latest hyperscale data center in Hong Kong.

AirTrunk opened its new 20MW Hong Kong data center (codenamed HKG1) in December 2020, located near Tsuen Wan. The eight-story facility was an industrial building which Airtrunk has now converted to a hyperscale data center with a design PUE of 1.35 and aimed at supporting cloud customers in Hong Kong and the APAC region.

With the new PoP at the data center, HGC now have the ability to provide fiber-based connectivity to link HKG1 to other facilities in the city and into APAC regions based on its network coverage.

“We have borne witness to rapid mounting demand for data center to data center network connectivity services in Hong Kong,” said Thomas Lee, AVP, Global Carrier Data, International Business of HGC.

“The HGC fiber optic grid available at AirTrunk’s state-of-the-art facility is a solid and robust infrastructure. It has the ability to be tailored to each client’s needs, and has a specially designed SLA for hyperscale companies, including large public cloud companies seeking to expand in the region. With state-of-the-art network infrastructure, far-reaching connectivity and software-based capability, HGC is well positioned to capture widespread market opportunities arising in the digital economy.”

In December 2020, HGC announced the completion of its network interconnection with TKO Express, the first submarine cable to directly link Chai Wan and the Tseung Kwan O Industrial Estate (TKOIE) which is considered a telecommunications and media hub for Hong Kong. Spanning 3.5 kilometers across Tathong Channel, TKO Express provides a geographically separate route between Hong Kong Island and the region’s emerging technology hub.

HGC is a portfolio company of I Squared Capital, a global infrastructure investment manager focusing on energy, utilities and transport in North America, Europe. Currently, HGC owns and operates fibre-optic network with five cross border telecom routes integrated into tier-one telecom operators in mainland China.
