PART OF ITS $2B EUROPEAN EXPANSION

Hyperscale campus provider Vantage Data Centers, has just announced the construction of its new Zurich region data center whose concrete shell has just been completed.

The new hyperscale data center campus is located in Winterthur, Switzerland, about 25 kilometers northeast of Zurich. This seven-acre campus is planned to feature four multi-story data centers spanning a total of more than 400,000 square feet (37,000 square meters) once fully developed.

This 40MW development will be the company’s first greenfield European hyperscale data center which is part of its $2 Billion (USD) European expansion that was kick-started in February, 2020 with the acquisition of Etix Everywhere, an EMEA data center provider.

“Vantage recently achieved two major milestones in our fast-track European expansion, including the completion of our first greenfield data center shell near Zurich along with the grand opening of our flagship Frankfurt campus. We look forward to welcoming customers to this highly secure and connectivity-rich facility in the third quarter of next year,” said Wolfgang Zepf, managing director of Vantage Switzerland.

Vantage’s Frankfurt hyperscale data center campus was opened last month with the availability of 15MW capacity, a phase-one delivery. The facility is sited in Offenbach, Germany and was part of the properties gained through the acquisition of Etix Everywhere. The Frankfurt campus is expected to house three multi-story data centers totaling 55MW of critical IT capacity and 650,000 square feet (60,000 square meters) when fully developed.

The current Zurich data center project is focused on the initial facility which is to deliver 8MW of capacity. With the state of development, Vantage expects the initial facility to be available in 2021. The company also plan to develop other European sites which are located in Berlin, Milan and Warsaw with a 64MW, 32MW and 64MW planned capacity respectively.

Vantage further intends to achieve industry-leading power usage effectiveness (PUE) and water usage effectiveness (WUE) with plans to add other green characteristics to the Zurich campus such as solar facade, electric vehicle charging stations, drought-resistant landscaping, a green roof and motion-sensor LED lighting.
