A 6MW DATA CENTER PROJECT

Technology services provider NTT Ltd., has just announced the commencement of construction at its first data center site in Madrid, Spain.

Handled by NTT’s Global Data Centers division in EMEA, the new site will house the company’s Madrid 1 Data Center which is designed to span 3,600 square meters and offer 6MW of power capacity to its clients or customers. This facility will further provide access to multiple carriers and cloud providers though NTT’s Multi Service Interconnection Platform.

“Madrid is the largest data center hub in Spain and a European gateway to the world. Three new submarine cables connecting USA, Latin America and North Africa, make Spain a very important communications hub on global connectivity landscape. Connectivity, paired with local and global demand from clients mean Madrid is an important location for NTT to invest and launch a major interconnected data center in Madrid”, said Florian Winkler, CEO of the Global Data Centers EMEA division of NTT Ltd.

Expected to be ready for customers in Q3 2021, Madrid 1 Data Center will sit on NTT’s 12,516 square meter site at Európolis Business and Technology Park, in the municipality of Las Rozas, located about 20km northwest of the city of Madrid itself, on the A-6 freeway to A Coruña.

“This new data center represents a clear commitment to the Spanish market and will undoubtedly contribute to the positioning of Spain as a Digital Hub for Southern Europe. Our clients will have access to colocation services, connectivity, cloud solutions, connection to the main hyperscalers and managed services, especially for hybrid IT environments on a local and global scale,” said Araceli Pedraza, Country Managing Director of NTT Ltd. in Spain.

This announcement follows a recent expansion move by the company which includes building a second UK data center project in Hemel Hempstead, which is about 24 miles northwest of London. Upon completion, the new UK facility will join the company’s other expansion projects in the region such as London 1, which is expected to open this autumn 2020.
