ITS LARGEST IN HILLSBORO

Data center service provider Flexential, has just announced the start of a new construction on its data center site in Hillsboro, Oregon, located outside of Portland.

The company will kick-start the development of the Flexential Portland-Hillsboro 3 data center site with a ground breaking ceremony which is scheduled for Thursday, October 1.

As first announced in May, facility marks Flexential’s third data center in Hillsboro, spanning a total of 358,000 square feet and expected to feature 36MW capacity, offering 1,500 watts per square foot of power density. The Flexential Portland-Hillsboro 3 data center will leverage the cooling efficiency in the region with zero water usage and run on 100% renewable energy.

“Hillsboro 3’s hallmark is its fiber-rich connectivity ecosystem. The new data center will be connected to Flexential’s 100 GB backbone, offering customers access to more than 200 carrier access points and connectivity to 40 data centers as part of the FlexAnywhere™ platform,” said Ryan Mallory, chief operating officer of Colocation Services, Flexential.

“As the COVID pandemic continues to drive digital transformation and a need for remote business, demand continues to increase. We are excited to break ground on Hillsboro 3 to meet this demand and continue our legacy in the region.”

Flexential’s Portland-Hillsboro 3 is the company’s largest data center in Hillsboro, where it will join the 242,000 square-foot Portland-Hillsboro 2 data center and Portland-Hillsboro 1 data center, bringing Flexential’s footprint in this region to a total of 700,000 square feet.

According to the company, its Portland-Hillsboro 3 data center will support power intensive applications such as AI and machine learning with four distinct and separate 60,000 square foot, 9MW data halls with 24 foot ceilings.

As part of the FlexAnywhere™ ecosystem, Portland-Hillsboro 3 will use the connectivity benefits of all carriers within the Portland region and have direct access to Flexential’s NAP of the Northwest facility that hosts two high capacity trans-Pacific cables: New Cross Pacific and Hawaiki, which connect Hillsboro and Asia Pacific, including Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand, China, South Korea, Taiwan and Japan.

Also in a bid to expand the FlexAnywhere™ platform to the Edge, Flexential recently launched a new Edge solution through partnership with American Tower, a wireless communications tower infrastructure provider, to setup remote micro data centers at the base of 3 communication towers.
