BOUYGUES GOT THE CONTRACT

British colocation provider Virtus, is expecting a new data center in its Stockley Park, London Campus, which will be constructed by the French contractors Bouygues.

Codenamed ‘London6’, the new data center will be the second on the Stockley Park campus, joining London5 which was opened in 2018. The site spans 70,000 square meters (750,000 square feet) and has a power capacity of 40MW.

“We continue to see a burgeoning demand for colocation in the UK data center market, as enterprises and cloud providers scale out their platforms to meet user demand for digital services,” said Neil Cresswell, CEO of Virtus Data Centres.

“We offer our customers true flexibility in design and can tailor solutions to customers’ exact needs. Importantly, we also have a power and space road-map in London of over 100MW that can continue to support customers as their needs change and their businesses grow.”

Bouygues will develop London6 to have an overall floor area of 14,000 square meters (150,000 square feet) which include 7,000 square meters (75,000 square feet) of IT space. Built to Tier III standards, the facility will be seated adjacent to London5.

Virtus claims to be the third largest colocation provider in the UK with an exclusive focus on the London market. Earlier this year, the company announced that it plans to spend £500 million on a network of five data centers in London which includes London6.

The project is backed by Virtus’ parent company ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC), a Singapore-based telecommunications giant which acquired the UK Company in 2017.

London6 delivery will be modular; hence, some data halls are expected to come online as early as March 2020. When fully developed, the data center will offer 16MW of critical IT load and the entire facility is scheduled for completion in November 2020.
