SWITCH EXPANDS LAS VEGAS CAMPUS

Datacenter provider Switch, has just unveiled a new 1.1 million square feet expansion project to its Las Vegas Data Center campus, Nevada.

The groundbreaking ceremony was graced by the Governor of Nevada Steve Sisolak, after which he tweeted, “I’m thrilled to join Switch for the groundbreaking ceremony of their new expansion! This new addition in Las Vegas will create hundreds of good paying jobs, while remaining committed to 100% renewable energy. Congratulations!”

Switch took a contract for enough solar power to provide for all its data center energy use, fulfilling a promise made in 2015, when it joined the US government’s American Business Act on Climate Pledge.

According to Switch, its Las Vegas campus supports up to 55kW per cabinet, 4.9¢ per kWh, 100% green power, and has no personal state income tax in Nevada. Tenants at Switch’s Las Vegas campus therefore receives significant tax incentives which include not paying personal state income tax and a 75% reduction in personal property tax.

“Las Vegas is Switch’s home, the place where we started, so to have the ability to continue to grow, continue to support our community and continue to support our customers with this expansion is something we’re extremely excited about,” said Adam Kramer, Switch spokesman.

The campus was planned to provide 3.5 million square feet of data center space and up to 430 MW of power capacity upon completion. The additional land would now add up to 115MW of power capacity, and would sum the company’s core campus to 4.6 million square feet.

Last month the hyper-scale data center provider Switch, announced that FedEx Corp. had signed a 10-year deal with the company to serve as FedEx’s western U.S. data center.

Also, the company recently welcomed Shawn Novak on board from CBRE, appointing him as the Executive Vice President of Strategic Solutions for Switch.
